This photo illustrates the dry-band arcing that can happen to polluted
insulators under wetting conditions
The course has been designed to enhance the understanding of design, manufacturing principles and pollution/aging processes for the range of insulators available in the market place today. Coupled with handling, storage, installation, and inspection practices the
course teaches the necessary skills to understand and resolve practical
insulator problems. Course Content
The Course PresentersWallace Vosloo Mr. Vosloo is Chief Consultant of TSI (Technology Services International), a division of Eskom Enterprises. He is a noted consultant in the field of high-voltage insulators. He won a best paper award at the International Symposium for High Voltage Engineering in Canada. He received the SAIEE President's award for his contribution in the field of high voltage insulator research. He won the Eskom Technology Groups research project of the year award for the Insulator Pollution Maintenance Guide. He has been a keynote presenter on high-voltage insulators at international conferences. He is currently working on a Ph.D. degree in the field of polymeric insulators. Roy Macey Mr. Macey has been involved in the study of the performance, maintenance, and design of high voltage insulators for the past 27 years. He established the first energized insulator test stations in South Africa. In 1980 he received an MSC (eng) degree for his thesis "The Performance of Outdoor High Voltage Insulation in Polluted Environments". A technical paper of the same title presented to the SAIEE received the SA Transport Services award. He has also received a Telemecanique Electrical Design award and a Shell Design award for his design of 22kV overhead line insulators. Roy is the South African representative on Cigre Study Committee 22 (overhead lines) and a member of Working Group 03 (Insulators). Contact: Pollution@Levico.com
